Vercel

4.5/52dm rating

The easiest way to deploy Next.js; the Hobby plan is for non-commercial use only.

A platform for deploying websites and frontend apps, especially strong with Next.js: push code to Git and you get a live version with a preview link.

Overview

Vercel is a hosting and deployment platform for websites, frontend apps and server-side functions, built by the team that develops Next.js. You connect a Git repository, and each time you push code Vercel builds, releases and creates a separate preview link for every change.

Vercel suits landing pages, company intro websites, blogs, course-selling sites or dashboards written in Next.js or other modern frameworks best. It is not a VPS: you can't install Docker or run n8n continuously on it, so self-hosted tools still need their own server.

Vercel has a Singapore compute region (code sin1), but server functions run in Washington (iad1) by default. If your customers and database are in Asia, you should change the function region to be close to your data.

Highlights

01

Deploy from Git

Every code push produces a new build, and side branches get their own preview links to review before going to production.

02

Optimized for Next.js

Features like server-side rendering, API routes and image optimization are supported out of the box with almost no configuration.

03

Global distribution network

Content is served from many points close to users, with a Singapore compute region suitable for Vietnamese customers.

04

Fast rollback

You can go back to the previous deployment in a few steps when the new version has a problem.

05

Full CLI

Manage deployments, environment variables, domains and logs right from the terminal or in a CI pipeline.

What it's for

Company intro website

The marketing team edits content in Git, and Vercel builds and updates the site automatically without server administration.

Landing pages for ad campaigns

Create several page versions on different branches, each with a preview link for quick review.

Frontend for AI apps

A chat interface or input form runs on Vercel, calling an API or n8n hosted on a separate VPS.

Internal dashboard

A report page written in Next.js reads data from a database, with access protection that can be turned on for previews.

How to use it

  1. 1

Create an account and connect Git

Sign up for Vercel with GitHub, GitLab or Bitbucket, then choose the code repository to deploy.

  2. 2

    Install the Vercel CLI (optional)

Use it when you want to deploy from your own machine or CI rather than only via Git.

    $npm i -g vercel
  3. 3

    Log in to the CLI

Authenticate your account in the terminal; in CI, use the VERCEL_TOKEN environment variable instead of typing it by hand.

    $vercel login
  4. 4

    Deploy a preview

Run in the project folder to create a preview build, and check it carefully before release.

    $vercel deploy
  5. 5

    Release to production

When it is stable, push to the official version, then attach your own domain in the Domains section.

    $vercel deploy --prod
  6. 6

    Choose the function region

In the Functions settings, change the region to Singapore (sin1) if your data and users are in Southeast Asia.

Real-world example

Illustrative scenario

A small training company in Ho Chi Minh City wants to rebuild its course-selling website with Next.js. The developer pushes code to GitHub and connects it to Vercel; whenever an article or price list is edited, the business owner receives a preview link to review on their phone before clicking release. Automation such as sending care emails to students is placed on n8n running on a separate VPS, and the website simply calls a webhook there.

Tips & notes

  • Read the Hobby plan terms carefully

The free plan is for personal, non-commercial purposes; business websites should use the Pro plan to avoid violating the terms.

  • Put functions near the data

The default region is the US; if your database is in Singapore, move the functions to sin1 to reduce latency.

  • Monitor usage

The Pro plan has an included allowance and charges extra by usage, so check usage periodically (you can view it with the vercel usage command).

  • Keep secrets in environment variables

Store API keys in the project's Environment Variables, don't commit them to Git and don't expose them to the browser side.

FAQ

Can I run n8n or Docker on Vercel?

Not suitable. Vercel is for websites and serverless functions; continuously running services like n8n should go on a VPS or a platform like Railway.

Does Vercel have servers near Vietnam?

There are Singapore (sin1) and Hong Kong (hkg1) compute regions, but you need to choose them yourself since the default is Washington.

Can the free plan be used for a business website?

According to the pricing page, the Hobby plan is for personal, non-commercial purposes; for business use, choose the Pro plan.

Can I deploy without Next.js?

Yes, Vercel supports many frontend frameworks and even pure HTML static sites.
