Railway

Railway
Deploy apps quickly without administering servers yourself.
A platform for deploying apps and databases without server administration, with a Singapore region; handy for running APIs, bots and n8n with Docker.
Overview
Railway is an application deployment platform (PaaS): you provide code or a Docker image, and Railway builds, runs, provisions a domain and manages environment variables. You can also add databases such as PostgreSQL or Redis in the same project.
Railway sits between the other two groups: more flexible than Vercel and Netlify because it can run continuous processes, containers and databases, but it doesn't make you administer Linux yourself like a VPS. That makes it suited to APIs, bots, background workers and even n8n running in Docker.
Railway has a Southeast Asia Metal region located in Singapore, suitable for Vietnamese users. Fees are based on resources actually used; paid plans come with an included usage amount and charge extra for the excess.
Highlights
No server administration
Deploy from GitHub, a Docker image or the CLI, and Railway handles the build and running.
Database in the same project
Add PostgreSQL, Redis and other services, connected via environment variables.
Singapore region
Choose the Southeast Asia Metal region to reduce latency for users in Vietnam.
Usage-based billing
Pay by CPU, RAM and actual resources; paid plans include a usage allowance.
Compact CLI
Create, link and deploy a project with just a few commands.
What it's for
Running n8n without administering a VPS
Deploy n8n with Docker along with PostgreSQL in the same project, choosing the Singapore region.
Backend API for an app
Put a Node.js or Python API next to the database, with the frontend on Vercel or Netlify.
Telegram and Zalo bots and background workers
Continuously running processes that receive messages and process queues.
Test environments for each feature
Create a separate environment for testing before going to production.
How to use it
- 1
Create an account
Sign up for Railway; new users get trial credit to get familiar.
- 2
Install the Railway CLI
Install via npm (requires Node.js 16 or later) or use the brew install railway command on macOS.
$npm i -g @railway/cli - 3
Log in
Authenticate your account in the terminal.
$railway login - 4
Create a project
Create a new project from the code folder; if a project already exists, use railway link.
$railway init - 5
Deploy
Push the code in the current folder to Railway to build and run.
$railway up - 6
Choose the region and add a database
In the service settings, choose the Southeast Asia Metal (Singapore) region and add PostgreSQL if needed.

DevOps Directive
Real-world example
A small spa chain in Hanoi wants a bot that takes appointments and automatically reminds customers before their appointment time. A freelance developer writes the bot in Node.js and deploys it to Railway with PostgreSQL in the same project, set to the Singapore region. The spa owner doesn't have to manage servers; when message wording needs changing, the developer updates the code and Railway rebuilds automatically.
Tips & notes
Set resource limits
Limit RAM, CPU and the number of replicas for each service to avoid unexpected cost increases.
Watch the Usage page
The plan's included usage resets each cycle and does not roll over; check often to keep track of costs.
Store secrets in environment variables
Use Railway's Variables for API keys and database passwords; don't commit them to Git.
Choose a region near the data
Put the app and database in the same Singapore region to reduce latency.
FAQ
How is Railway different from a VPS?
Railway handles the server, build and running; you only manage code and configuration. A VPS gives full control but you must administer it yourself.
Can I run n8n on Railway?
Yes, n8n has an official Docker image so it can be deployed as a service, ideally with PostgreSQL to store data.
Is there a region near Vietnam?
Yes, the Southeast Asia Metal region is located in Singapore.
What does the free plan include?
According to the pricing page, the Free plan has 1 USD credit per month, while the trial has a one-time 5 USD credit; for real use you should choose a paid plan.
